Where I work in midtown Manhattan, you can expect to pay anywhere between 6 - 10 dollars if you buy your lunch (between 15 – 20 if you go to an average restaurant after tip and drink water). Simple math tells me that if I work 5 days a week, 50 weeks a year, at just seven dollars per lunch, that’s in the vicinity of $1,750.00 a year. And I usually visit a restaurant or fast food establishment once or twice on weekends, so you can add at least another $700 to that annually.
Good thing I enjoy PB&J’s. I suddenly have the urge to eat a lot more of them.

I once sat down to budget and did some number crunching, and realized to my horror that I had spent over $400 that month on meals and groceries — for just myself! As much as I hate math, sometimes I need to make myself sit down and look at the numbers. Good reminders you’ve got here.

Welcome to the world of financial planning.
Try doing time analysis. If I spend 2 minutes brushing my teeth twice a day, and I have been doing this since I was four, I’ve spent about 51 DAYS brushing my teeth in my lifetime. No wonder they’re worn out…
I figure I’ve spent about 25 YEARS being confused….

Even more frightening is adding up a five year on your rental payments and realizing you could buy a reasonable sized mid-western home for the amount I’m paying to live in a 10×12 room. Yippee…
