Remember Remember…

Remember remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder, treason
Should ever be forgot…

If you haven’t seen it yet, take a night and watch V for Vendetta.  It’s a great flick and I think it has a lot of powerful things to say about the nature of government and the people.  I find it to be a fun discussion piece as well.  From the Wiki link above, “…the filmmakers have said that the film is intended more to raise questions and add to a dialogue already present in society, rather than provide answers or tell viewers what to think.”

I could go on, but I’ll let you draw your own conclusions.  If you have seen it, please share your thoughts.  Spoiler free, if possible.

    I’ve seen it, and found it interesting. I’d be curious to read the original–did it start as a GN or as a series (or was it a series of GNs?). I generally have a hard time watching dystopian futures–no problem believing that an X-Wing could hit a 2 meter thermal exhaust port, but ask me if people would let themselves live like that, and it’s just too high for my suspensioin of disbelief. I think that that was my favorite thing about it–the way they portrayed opression and complacency going hand-in-hand.

    My other memory–particularly disliked Evie. Not sure why.

    Thoughts shared. 😛

    Still jazzed from the movies last night–that was seriously fun!

    Hi, J;

    I found V to be a fascinating movie, and a bit disturbing. Because it is based on trends I see in our own society.

    Freedom requires maintenance. If enough people realize this basic truth, we can avoid a future as dismal as that.

    Just as a point of reference, notice which groups want to render the Second Amendment invalid. The very first step in suppressing freedom is to suppress the right to bear arms by the populace.

    Ali – It was a 10 part comic book series. Technically that’s not a GN, but I’d love to find a copy of all 10 combined into one.

    Pop – I saw some potential similarities as well. I’m particularly interested in the scenes that involved the government stepping in to spin or blatantly fabricate the news because I believe that goes on in real life today.

    Ahh. Somehow I thought you’d know the answer to that. Did Jean forward you my MTV email today? I couldn’t find your email address!
