The March of J

I love this time of year.  It’s when Spring and Winter weather fight it out to determine what people will wear each day and the accuracy of groundhogs.  Most of you know my absolute loathing of summer heat, but even I have to get excited about Spring in the city.  That hard edge NYC can grind into people softens just a little bit.  I mean, it’s kind of hard to be a tough New Yorker when you’re lounging in Bryant Park eating ice cream.

So… It’s been while.  How you doin’?

March has kept me busy.   Work has been hectic but I’ve also been able to enjoy a lot of face time with friends.  Usually when I’m mentally bogged down I crawl into my little introverted, antisocial hole and begin stacking furniture against the door.  My amazing friends have helped me remember it’s okay to lean on people.  Either to vent your irrational frustrations about life or just to kick back, have a beer and talk about the day.

Now, on to something a bit more geeky topical.

Last week Roomie and I finished the greatest video game trilogy in the history of ever.  God of War 3.  Amazing story.  It’s the difference between a movie written to be a trilogy from the beginning and a movie that gets sequels because the first one made money.  Quality.  This is a rare treat in todays entertainment options.  Not to mention flawless gameplay and Blu-Ray quality graphics.

But I’ll not camp on that too long.  I also saw Alice in Wonderland a few weeks ago.  As was the expectation, it was more like Johnny Depp in Wonderland with a special appearance by Alice.  Visually it was very enjoyable, as most things done by Tim Burton are.  I didn’t see it in 3-D, but don’t feel like I missed much because of it.  It’s worth seeing again on acid Netflix, but I don’t feel the need to own it.

This past weekend I fixed some stuff around the apartment.  The blinds in my room decided to jump off my window the other day.  They were about as crappy as blinds could get*, so it wasn’t a loss.  I was happy to replace them with some nice wooden ones.  I didn’t have a drill handy (and by proxy no drill bits either), so it ended up costing me quite a bit more than I had intended.  But the end result was nice.  The end result being me sleeping peacefully and also not on display to the neighborhood while I’m changing clothes.  Been four days and they’re still hanging strong so I guess I did a good job.

That’s enough of a recap I think.  Hope you’ve all had a good March too.  More to come soon.

* I could never raise them because it took about 10 minutes and lots of swearing to get them back down.  True story.  They wouldn’t budge without an explicative.

I just got the second and third God of War.

Now you know how I’ll be spending my weekend. 😉

    Hmm. . .

One of the things that actually impressed me about Alice was how restrained Burton and Depp kept the Mad Hatter–it easily could have been The Johnny Depp Show (and yes, he was still a huge chunk of the movie), but I feel like the focus really did stay on Alice and her journey.
